It is a well-accepted belief in ‘Maoridom’, and even among many non-Maori in New Zealand, that the Maori race possesses a high level of “spirituality”, and is therefore “highly spiritual”. Before we give ourselves kudos of any kind, however, it is wise to first know the true meaning of a word and its concept, and therefore the actual meaning of the word in its real-life form.
Spirituality: n. 1. The state, quality or fact of being ‘spiritual’. Derived from:
Spiritual: adj. 1. Of, pertaining to, consisting of, or having the nature of ‘spirit’, or a ‘spirit; not tangible or material. 2. Of, concerned with, or affecting the soul. Derived from:
Spirit: n. 1. That which is traditionally believed to be the vital principle or animating force within living beings, often contrasted with non-living matter.
- (Capital S) In Christian Science, God.
- Any supernatural being, or power, such as;
- a) A ghost.
- b) One regarded as being able to enter and take control of a person.
- That which is traditionally regarded as the nonmaterial essence or true nature of an individual, especially: a. The intangible spiritual core of a person; the soul.
- The essential and activating principle of a person; the will and the qualities thereof, and thus the associated ‘spirituality’ aspect.
That’s what the dictionary says.
The general intellectual designation of the word Spirit [from which Spiritual and Spirituality are derived] gives us a veritable playground and minefield of many meanings of this powerful and vital concept and reality for we human beings – of ALL races! For it is a word that can be applied to any idea or notion we might even ‘personally’ deem relevant, appropriate, or connective.
[A notion of: “One person’s idea of spirituality is another person’s idea of evil.”] Dangerous! Paradoxically: Spiritually dangerous!
Since Spirit is the primary word from which Spiritual and Spirituality are derived, what is Spirit actually NOT; as opposed to some ‘official meanings’ from a major Dictionary.
In answer to that ‘quandary’, you, website visitor, might question the author’s ‘spiritual qualifications’ to so determine what is genuinely spiritual, and what is not. Since this website is directed primarily to the Maori in the probably vain hope that the great Spiritual Mission and task of the Maori race – as shown to the prophet Ratana and then on to me, — might, might ‘perhaps’ still be fulfilled, then my Mandate can be found in three ‘forms’ –now ALL Fulfilled!
1) A 670 page book, for which this website was created, that examines every subject that historically impacted Maori in the historical sense, and up to the present time, especially the contentious question of spirituality, and being ‘spiritual’.
2) From Ratana in 1929: A prophecy — about that book:
“Soon, very soon in the future you will no longer speak,
but instead a very different person [generation]
will reveal to you all the fruits of these prophecies.
Not only will it be revealed exclusively to you
the morehu only; no but to the whole country…”
Another prophecy in 1924 – about another book by this author from Ngapuhi land.
“Although the faith was brought here by other people,
it will be us who will take the real faith to them,
because the real faith has been established among us , the Maori people. …
You have the faith, you the Maori people of New Zealand.”
The real faith Ratana prophesied was written into the work, “Bible Mysteries Explained”. This book set right the centuries-old appalling distortions of Bible Scripture disseminated by the European Christian Churches to psychologically condition the “flock” to accept its flawed Doctrine, which was, and still is, power and religious subjugation. The Book was favourably reviewed and accepted for the Frankfurt Book Fair some years ago, thereby fulfilling Ratana’s prophecy of Maori taking the real faith to the world.
3) Strongest Mandate of all. From Page xviii in “Author’s Note”:
“Finally, in seeking personal help from the very “Source” that guided this Work on how to counter various forms of opposition that will surely come my way, [and it surely has] clear words were given for the purpose.
Since the primary role of a prophet is to warn, in the closing part of this Proclamation for the crucially-necessary knowledge herein – the Message from that Sure Source grants me the Mandate to proclaim the following”:
If I do not tell you this, who is going to?
